Radish Shmeeting MInutes

June 21 Radish Shmeeting Minutes

1) The next Radish Shmeeting will be on July 6th at 7 pm.

2) Gathering: A number of Radishals will be leaving soon for the National Rainbow Gathering in West Virginia. This means that we need your help! If you have any spare time in the next few weeks, please consider signing up on the schedule. Without your help (as always!) we can’t keep our doors open.

3) Punk and Palestine: The Punk and Palestine show is this Saturday. We will need some help working the door, taking money, and keeping things running. A couple of folks offered to help. It would be great if we could get a couple more to split up the time. We also reaffirmed our decision to pass the hat during the Palestine presentation to help gather money for the folks coming in from Memphis. Katie and Jessie offered to help put up flyers. Thanks gals!

4) Beer: The Radish is not a pub! We will be posting signs at all future shows that say something to the effect of “To preserve an all ages space, we can’t allow alcohol on the premises.” And yes, friends, it will be enforced! Another sign will direct people on the back porch to the ash tray . . .

5) Womyn’s Nite: The next Womyn’s Nite will be on Tuesday, June 28th at Jenny’s house. If you need directions, please give her a call at 496-3782.

6) Critical Mass: Some folks have expressed concern over the way in which the previous Critical Mass riders conducted themselves. The Radish is absolutely not in charge of this event – however, a number of Radishals are involved in Critical Mass, and they had a discussion amongst themselves. Heidi is working on flyers with friendly suggestions about what Critical Mass means to her and how people might make decisions during the ride.

7) $ - The Radish is running way behind on money this month. We brainstormed some ways in which we could raise some money. The following was discussed – putting a note in the next email, Kate offered to work a bit more on the raffle, announce raffles at show, silent auction of art, make t-shirts, bring screenprinting stuff to the space, advertise bring your own shirt and have a screenprinting day, Heidi is checking into tote bags. If any of these ideas sound interesting to you, or you can think of something else that does – DO IT! (also, please consider giving a donation
the next time you stop by)

8) Computers: Kate’s uncle has offered us two free computers with wireless cards in them. This will solve half of a longstanding problem at The Radish. Now all we need is some wireless internet access. . . Thanks Kate and Kate’s uncle!!!!

9) Anarchy Discussion Group: Because a number of people will not be here when we had previously scheduled the next Anarchy Group meeting, we have rescheduled it for Thursday, July 7 at 6 pm. Trint – can you make it on this day??? Trint, if he can come, will be speaking about Anarchy in Literature (I think).

10) We have shows on July 9th (The Jim Jims and Thee Fine Lines) and July 23rd (a West Memphis 3 benefit show – a lot of bands are getting signed up for this, so stay tuned for more details).

11) Matt Blunt: Matt Blunt is organizing some “public input” meetings on the state executive branch and how to cut excess spending from the budget. Guess what Matt, we’ve got some ideas!!! Planned Parenthood is planning a protest – we’d like to help them out. We will be putting up a poster in the space, at the very least. If anyone is interested in doing more, please let us know. Also, if any groups planning for this event would like to have a meeting here, we’d be glad to host!

12) Misc:
-Kate is going to see if Sad Ida would like to play a show at The Radish
sometime in July. We’re super-excited about this possibility!
-Jessie knows some folks on City Council – lets just keep this in mind, shall
we?
-Jessie has also offered to ask around about some folk musicians playing at The Radish and about the possibility of a fundraiser for us at The Outland
