Happenings at The Radish

Dearest Radishals,

We want to let you all know what has been going on in the space, as lots of changes are going on.

Due to several hard workers for the Radish taking off to travel or relocate, we’re especially in need of volunteers to “person” the shop. Any amount of time you can spend here ~ doing whatever you are equipped to do ~ would be of great help! (Free “training”, too! We wouldn’t just put you behind the counter without support!)

We’ve had lots of very GOOD publicity! As most of you know, the Radish was nominated by 417 magazine as the “best manifestation of political diversity.” We were also featured in a recent edition of GO! magazine.

There are lots of great things going on in the space! There are community potlucks every Monday night at 7pm. ~ come on in & bring the family! There’s an activist support group starting up, meeting every Saturday at 2. Socrates CafĂ© is also coming back, with its first meeting on Saurday, March 4th, at 6:30 pm. There may even be Spanish skill-shares coming to the space soon! And, as always there’s free coffee, tea, books, and conversation for anyone interested.

As for business matters: the lease is in the process of being resigned & the insurance renewed, which means that the space will be secured for at least another year. We need to raise money to pay the bills, as usual/of course, so please continue to consider the Radish for your donation $$$ & ¢¢¢!

Also, there is an exciting birthday coming up that needs celebration! The Radish was opened in April of 2005, which makes it nearly a year old. Like any first birthday, the Radish turning a year old needs some festivity, so we’re planning several events for April, to celebrate. We will be sending another email with the sechdule for the Radish Birthday Celebration when it’s finalized.

Yours through the revolution,

Amber

from Kansas and Missouri

Saturday April 8th 2006 9:30 am -6 pm
Ecumenical Christian Ministries Building 1204 Oread Avenue, Lawrence Kansas

This event is being sponsored by the April Convergence Committee, a group of
Lawrence, Kansas based anti-war activists. It has been 3 years since the
start of the war on Iraq, and all of our efforts have reaped little reward.
We are holding this convergence in hope of fostering a continuing dialogue
about the next steps we must take in the anti-war movement.

WORKSHOPS:
Beyond Blood for Oil: A look at the intimate relationship between
globalization and war.
The Role Of Civil Disobedience in the Anti-War Movement. A discussion of
historic and contemporary actions and their effects.
The Ramifications of the Nuclear Technology for Mangos Exceptions to the
Non-proliferation treaty and the new balance of atomic power.
Music in the Movement Jam session, Filk Singing, whatever happens?
Some of our singer songwriters will be serenading us during lunch.
Workshops in the works:
We are trying to get Joe Carr of the Christian Peacemakers to do a
workshop about his experiences in Palestine and Iraq.

If you are planning on spending the night in Lawrence, we are asking that
you find your own housing. If you have a physical or financial need for
housing please let us know so that we can accommodate you.

There will also be a free childcare for those who need it. Please let us
know right away if you will need childcare so that we can make arrangements
for all children.. We can be reached at: april806@hotmail.com Include
number of children and their ages, please.

Please respond to this e-mail by April 1st if possible. There is no required
pre-registration. However the Food Group needs an approximate number for
lunch by April 1st. . We can be reached at: april806@hotmail.com

Please bring materials and set up a table at the ECM building. Some tables
will be
provided, but if you have one, it would be helpful to bring it along.

description of who they are, where they are from, what they are doing, what
they need help with and/or what they can do to help.
