August Calendar
Alright friends, we know this is a lengthy one, but please don’t skip a line! We’ve got a lot of great stuff on the calendar this month that you won’t want to miss. Radishals – sharpen your pencils and get out your calendars. . .
Monday, August 1 @ 7:30 pm: IMC Meeting. We’re finally up and running! At the last meeting we purchased a domain name and web space on a server. Now comes the fun part – and we need your help! We will be gathering at the meeting rooms on the 1st floor of the Meyer Library at SMSU (just past the check out counter, on the left) on Monday. (If you would like to join a mailing list for this group, please visit http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-sw-missouri)
Tuesday, August 2 @ 6 pm: Peace Network of the Ozarks meeting. Everyone welcome!
Tuesday, August 2 @ 7 pm: The Roots Rockin’ Brilliance of Darren Kramer. Foot tappin’ boogie blues bop rock straight from New Jersey, with the eclectic acoustical meanderings of Maioan Person. Pocket change cover charge, donate to Darren’s travel fund (and The Radish!). Nobody will be turned away for lack of dough! So . . . be there, or be square! (http://www.darrendeicide.com)
Friday, August 5 @ 7 pm: Ryan Flores. Come pamper your senses with music by Ryan Flores. One of our favorite local musicians – don’t miss it!
Tuesday, August 9 @ 6-9 pm: Womyn’s Night. This event is NOT at The Radish. Call Jenny at 496-3782.
Wednesday, August 10 @ 5:30 pm: Radish Shmeeting. Come make it happen. You know you want to.
Wednesday, August 10 @ 7 pm: Wicca Meeting. Come meet other local pagans!
Thursday, August 11 @ 6:30-8:30 pm: Abortion Conversation Project. “It’s time for an open and honest conversation about abortion. Will you join us?” Thus begins the website of the Abortion Conversation Project. We are very excited to be hosting an abortion conversation at The Radish! Don’t miss this one. For more info on the project, visit http://www.abortionconversation.com
Saturday, August 13 @ 4 pm: Movie “The Miami Model.” Paramilitaries, embedded journalists, and illegal protests. Think this is Iraq? It’s your country. An eye-opening, startling look at the police treatment of protestors during the 2003 FTAA protests in Miami.
Tuesday, August 16 @ 6 pm: Anarchy Discussion Group. It is what you make it!
Wednesday, August 17 @ ? pm: Media film – more on this soon!
Thursday, August 18 @ 7 pm: GRO presentation, “Blunt Trauma.” Grass Roots Organizing MO presents a 30 minute film about Gov. Matt Blunt’s Medicaid cuts in Missouri and their effect on Missouri’s citizens. The film will be followed by a conversation/presentation with statewide GRO representatives.
Sunday, August 21 @ 2 pm?: Post-Convocation Discussion at The Radish. The Radish has been offered the opportunity to host post-convocation discussions after every convo speaker at Drury this year. This is a great opportunity for us to reach out to the community and bring people together to talk about some really important stuff. The theme this year is “Sustainability” and the schedule is packed with great speakers. The discussions will start approximately one hour after each convocation. Visit http://www.drury.edu/multinl/story.cfm?ID=13739&NLID=259 for more information on dates and speakers, and check out http://www.drury.edu/multinl/story.cfm?ID=14163&NLID=259 for a great blurb about The Radish.
Wednesday, August 24 @ 7 pm: Wicca Meeting.
Saturday, August 27 @ 4 pm: Movie “Palestine is Still the Issue.” A slightly dated, but very important look inside what is happening in occupied Palestine. If you don’t feel like you understand this issue, or would just like to know more about it, don’t miss this film!
Tuesday, August 30 @ 6 pm: Anarchy Discussion Group.
Wednesday, August 31 @ 7 pm: Poetry Night.
