Raduary!

Dear Radi(cal) Radishals,

This is a call out for an important schmeeting coming up. Despite all rumors of the Radish closing down, we are still going strong. In fact, our landlord has invited us to resign our lease that ends this April. He actually likes us and wants to keep us in this excellent downtown location. This Tuesday (Jan 10) at 8pm we are going to have a Radish Schmeeting (open to everyone) to discuss what we should do and who is willing to be on this next year's lease. If you want the Radish to continue in downtown Springfield with it's mission statement of supporting diversity and ending all forms of oppression and explotation, then please come and show your support with ideas and action. We pushed the meeting time from 7pm to 8pm, so those of you going to the PNO meet-up can (hopfully) still have some time to come to this one. Did I say you all are Rad!

NOW FOR OTHER NEWS:
Several must attend events coming in January...How about Joe Carr , acoustic folk/punk musical activist Shannon Murray, Protest Poster Parties for Bush's State of the Union Address (Joe Carr is going to show us how to make a huge puppet on the 27th that we can use for the protest on the 31st), a Rainbow Tribe Pre-scouting council (for this springs Regional Gathering), Socrates Cafe, Radical Cheerleading, and a rock show including El Minotaur, Lye by Mistake (from St. Louis), Floob, and rapper Smitty. whew! You can get all the details for these events on the Peace Network Calendar of Community Events

Also, we've had over fifty new books donated in the last month to our lending library. Several on building cob homes and permaculture, books by bell hooks and Tom Brown, Jr., the complete Disinformation collection, plus many, many more. Remember, if every supporter of the Radish Infoshop donated as little as five dollars a month, we could pay all our bills plus have money leftover to bring in more speakers and workshops. Every contribution is appreciated!

in solidarity,
The Radish (via jojo)

I hear you guys are gonna protest the State of the Union Address. That's awesome! I love not hearing important speeches that shape the nation and instead love hearing extremist-liberal propaganda. Hooray! I love not thinking for myself. Please, tell me how I begin getting unverified news sources. I hear Inymedia's good. They just spout propaganda and claim it's news. Is that what I do? Great! Oh, boy! A Zapista movement. I love when muderous warlords begin "peaceful" political movements. But I guess I have to say that or he'll kill me like he did with the hundreds of Mexicans a decade ago. Hooray! I love following dictators. But I guess you do, too since both dictators and your "info" shop love the propaganda. Please don't close down. I know that the novelty has run off and people have begun understanding how crazy your agenda is, but don't let those silly naysayers that like to get their information from more than fanatical leftist sources. We can't have them thinking for themsleves. We must protest free will. Free will is a myth perpetuated by the government. I hate how the government always comes in building roads, inspecting our food, and giving retirees money. That stuffs bad. Yay! Anarchy all the way! Well as long as anarchy means following your agenda.

Heyo.

I live in Mount Vernon, not too far away from Springfield. I'm really interested in your infoshop, but, ya know, I couldn't find your e-mail address on the blog. I'd prefer to speak with you guys through e-mail, rather than blog comments.

I'll add your blog to my bookmarks and check back. If you want, you can send me a message at drworm477[at]gmail.com too. Yeah... Bye.

You'll be waiting in vain, Morgan. The Radishfools just make blanket statements, but never back them up with facts. Jon nor any of his propagandists will respond, because they know their agenda is baseless and ignorant. Since propaganda is their offense, their defense is moot and will never come. Cowards.

An example of the Radishes factless propaganda is its position on Roe vs. Wade. They want you to believe that if a conservative is voted on the Supreme Court, that will equal overturning the decision and would make abortion illegal.

What they won't tell you is that even if the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, it wouldn't outlaw abortion. What it would do is send the decision to the States. It's like the Death Penalty, some states have it, others don't. But the Radish isn't into the truth, they're into propaganda.

Oh yeah they're "against all forms of oppression and exploitation" unless, of course, they're the ones exploiting the truth and opressing others with their agenda. But, that's why they're on the verge of closing down. No one wants to support an extremist organization.

I don't know what to say...

IF you want to talk, come in and lets do it face to face.

I don't think that any one news source (mainstream, independent, or otherwise) is completely without bias.

Personally, I monitor mainstream news organization such as FOX, CNN, NBC, etc, as well as keeping in touch with what people post on IndyMedia sites and such.

The thing about completely dismissing EVERYTHING on a indymedia site is that you or ANYBODY can post news, commentary or announcements, not just us who maintain the website. That in itself seems to be less "propagandist" than mainstream networks, as they would never allow views to be posted that conflicted with their agenda.

And if you think that the mainstream reports news without regard to any biased "agenda" then you are not paying attention... at the very least, they have an agenda regarding their share holders that overshadows any responsibility to their audience.
Personally, I feel that many of the network and wire news services DO have an propagandist agenda that is much more dangerous than anything of which the Radish has been accused.

Ultimately, each of us as individuals has to make up our own mind!

I was talking about actual Democracy and if you know anything about most anarchist organising, you know about democratic processes such as consensus and spokes councils. Most of my life has been spent among folks who successfully used real Democracy everyday without permission from the republic. That is the Democracy to which I was refering.

Wow, This is the first time that I have been in the comments section, and I am shocked and appalled at the hatred and anger that are being directed at The Radish, and thusly, all individuals involved. I wonder if our anonymous coward realizes that making blanket statements about the follks who love and support The Radish is the same as saying that all christians hate jews or some equally offensive statement. The Radish is an infoshop. Infoshops provide sources of information that are not freely available elsewhere to those who would like them. The Radish is made and suported entirely by the folks who care enough to show up, regardless of political beleifs, biases, sexual orientation or anything else. All voices that present themselves are heard equally, and all opinions matter. Everyone has their own views and beleifs, and all people are welcone at The Radish at all times to speak their minds with other folks, no matter what is on their mind at the time. The Radish is a true free speech zone withour judgment or prejudice. I cherish it, and am proud to be a part of the only truly open community in Springfield.

Unless of course those views or beliefs are Republican, Conservative, or Christian. We can't have those folks speaking their minds. We might as well throw those pesky Moderates into the mix. After all, didn't one of your founders call Joe Lieberman a fascist?

P.S. Oh, and apparently no drinking's allowed as well. They don't like when bands drink, unless Jon, I'm sorry. "Jojo" is involved.

Hey anon, Guess what? I'm a conservative. Big deal. I'm a member of the community too. As for Christian, you might want to check out the christian activism rack (it's wooden, and over 5' tall). As for "founders" that would be anyone who was involved at the beginning, as it is RUN by the community. *smile* And since anyone can state their beleifs about a subject at The Radish, I don't really care who said what about who. Everyone is welcome to their opinions, and welcome to share them. Also, the only drama/bad-natured commentary I've ever seen in the radish has been here on this blog. As for drinking, I've never seen drinking (alcohol) at The Radish. I also have no clue, nor do I care what the political stances are of the people I meet at The Radish. I go there to help the community (ALL of it), share information, and get ideas on how I can better help the causes I beleive in. I think that has little to do with the title one places on oneself.
