Forward In All Directions

Our lease at 417 Boonville is up on March 1st, so we've been busily packing up the shop to move. It's amazing...we've been here for two years! And all that time, The Radish has provided a much needed intersection for folks who wouldn't normally cross paths, much less hang out together ~ especially in this region.

That an infoshop opened in Springfield, in the first place, and has run for 2 yrs, mostly on donations, is actually pretty miraculous. In fact, our fairly extensive & well used lending library was all donated, & those books came, went & came back at a more than acceptable rate. Lots of community centered groups were able to come together &/or use The Radish to good advantage, such as Socrates Café, Save Our Scene, Queen City Radical Cheerleaders, Critical Mass & Women's Night. Several alternative political campaigns were aided by the use of Radish resources. And we dispensed a whole lot of condoms thanks to AIDS Project of the Ozarks! The need for our resources hasn't diminished during our time at the Boonville location, & we continue to get requests almost daily from groups & individuals.

Since the shop never had enough room to house all the great possibilities we've envisioned for The Radish, we're actively seeking a much larger (yet more economical) space. Imagine your Radish Infoshop with an adjacent community garden, bicycle workshop, private meeting room(s), and performance space for local independent musicians & artists! Visualize activists from the many Springfield community betterment groups using our resources to work more effectively together!

The Radish Collective is at its strongest, & we're continuing to schedule speakers and events at other venues while searching for a new location.

So volunteer opportunities are actually multiplying, rather than diminishing. Tabling at music shows & community events, posting flyers, ferrying supplies, & scouting a new location are a few of the tasks at hand. So STAY CONNECTED! Together, we can educate and agitate toward the end of all forms of oppression & exploitation!

Over all, support and publicity for The Radish have exceeded expectations. Thanks to you all for helping us complete our second lease term “in the black”! Of course we need your continued financial support, since we still have operating costs and, more importantly, our goal of acquiring the new space.

In Solidarity,
Alder

A Must Read Radish Infoshop Thingy!!!!

Dear Radishals,
The shop has been a buzz of activity both before and after the recent ice storm. Some of our normal volunteers are on sabbatical and new and exciting folks have arrived to work on various community and activism projects.

We had presentations on green scare coupled with civil rights training. We have added more public research computers and for those with laptops that were not aware we DO have WiFI available (donations appreciated) during normal hours.

Some current and ongoing projects are storm clean-up, lending library additions, a new digital media library is being actively worked on by several volunteers and may with any luck be available via our website (also being redone) as well as in-shop. Community gardening has been a
topic of heated discussion.

There are also some regular workshops and working groups starting up in-shop. Check our calendar at http://www.radishinfoshop.org/calendar.html. I promise it will be updated to February ASAP so you too will be in the know.

The Radish Collective needs YOUR help! We have experienced a slump in donations as some of our normal donors were hit very hard by the storm and were unable to contribute. Their difficult time is ours as well, so PLEASE, if you can make a contribution to The Radish, now is the time!
Your infoshop needs your support!

For those with busy lives you can donate online! Send via pay pal to radishal@radishinfoshop.org or, click the “Make a Donation” button at right, under "Links" on this blog (scroll up).

Additionally, The Radish Collective decided The Radish needs more room to hold workshops, public meetings, and more books and computers! We are actively seeking a new and larger yet cost conscious location.

If you have recommendations on a new space that is by, donation, rent to own, owner finance, or what have you; send a message including address, contact person, and other important details to radishal@radishinfoshop.org with the words “location location location” in the subject line.

It's time to shape the future of your infoshop!

Are you planning on moving? I've never had the chance to stop by your location but have been interested to see what's there from reading your blog.

Yeah, Darin, we've moved from our old location at 417 N. Boonville, & had to put the shop contents into storage until we find a new location. In the meantime, check out our continued Radish Collective sponsored events on our calendar. Just click on the calendar link(s) on this blog. (Scroll up & look on right-hand side, near top, for "Links" list.)
