Under new Volunteers...

For the sake of discussion, we've recently had problems with sending emails and calender viewing. So instead of viewing it off the link, please refer to the bottom of the page. Go ahead, it's okay to look.

It's been another glorious start of the month and already there have been many changes. To start, some volunteers have been volunteering differently, but with the same level of enthusiasm and even some new ideas. Making improvements to The Radish Infoshop and community have been the topics for discussion at most Radish functions this last week. We've had several free flowing ideas and are always open for improvements!

We (collectively, of course), have decided that it's a bit easier if we make a list of things to do for the week following every Sunday. With that said, please keep in mind the projects we have coming up from this Sunday's unofficial schmeeting.

The Free Store:

We are in the process of covering the geodesic dome and welcome any ideas about materials and supplies. We are thinking rain proof, durable, and cheap or free. Any ideas? We also could use some duct tape, cardboard, and Styrofoam for mending sharp screws and thus putting us closer to completion of the Free Store! Any volunteers? Also, with the additions to the Temporary Free Store there has been great collective effort to donate...we must now downsize until the Free Store is complete. We are having a Temporary Free Store Blowout! Everything is now twice as free and 100% off! 818 W. College Springfield, Missouri. Come check us out!

The Lending Library:

Excellent progress has been made in the Lending Library and the expansion is noticeable. Many books are being checked out and several are being donated on a regular basis, and we are still looking for volunteers! On librarything.com, we've collectively hit the 500 books mark, and the number of books continue to grow. We are needing a volunteer to catalog books into the LibraryThing so our community, friends, families, and travelers know what they are looking for. It's been said that it would be appreciated if there was a way to check out videos in the Radish, and we are here to offer a solution! With a couple of CD R's and extra videos that aren't in the library, burning them as educational tools would be no problem! We are also in need of a shelf for the Lending Learning Sharing and Growing "Video Reference Library"! It could be pre-made or with materials produced from the Radish House (We have plenty of lumber, nails, hammers, saws, tape measures, and sandpaper.) We need it to fit in a particular spot, so no wider than 50 inches and at least three, 12 inch tall tiers. This is also, merely a suggestion.

Urban Gardening:

We have come up with some interesting ideas on rainwater collection and compost tumblers, but are always looking for new ways to enlighten and empower the Urban Gardening Team. We love volunteers! If you'd like to check it out, the center will continue to open on Sundays from 1 pm-8ish, and during the week by chance and availability of volunteers. We have held every event ever scheduled on the calender, and will continue to play host to organizations, collectives, and the group needs of the community. On a side note, we could definitely use some extra dirt/topsoil for the projects currently underway.

Creative Art Projects:

As the year progresses, we find ourselves in need of community beautification and the reaffirmation of life. Yes, spring is finally here, and everything is just as it should be. A flag making workshop will be on the calender for this month and Junk Mobile Night is Tuesday the 13th of May. Please come and create Art Mobiles with us! It's also been said that a Neighborhood Clean Up Day would be nice, so it's been added to the calender for Friday the 16th. We also have need for a trifold and fliers, so creation and ideas are welcome and we will see what we come up with!

Project Free Bread:

We've recently decided to hold the free bread program, and will be starting with the collective, neighborhood, and communities surrounding The Radish, and will continue to receive donations of bread. Come and get your bread today. Sundays are the pick up days and we'll be packing them with us where ever we go.

Folk Corner every 1st Friday Art Walk:

This month's newest addition to Radish Free Thought was the 'Free Tea Campaign' at the Downtown Square! It will be part of Folk Corner and we will be stationed there with several gallons of hot water and tea bags aplenty! Bring your own cup and enjoy free tea at the Square!
Musical instruments are not required but welcomed with open arms! Thanks for all your support!

Please come by and see what we are up to. A volunteer has been here working on things regularly during the week, and so many things get accomplished when there are more open minds and hands. This month has been wonderful and several suggestions have been made and used. So, please stop by and see the changes we are making in this community! You'll be glad you did!

Peace and love in all things,

Anonymous Radishals
