Greening Up

Greetings and Salutations!

It's spring again, that wondrous time when all growing things come back to life, and that includes our beloved Radish. We're still at 818 W College (Just west of Grant from the downtown Springfield square). New hours of operation are being arranged at the moment, so check back here frequently (or stop by during any scheduled event), to find out when you can drop in and visit with your fellow Radishals.

* Throughout the winter months, The Radish as been quietly hosting small potluck dinners every Thursday evening, but now is the time to get loud about it. You are invited to our weekly potluck dinner every Thursday starting at 7pm. At around 8:30, we'll chat about the goings on at the center, and make plans for the coming weeks.

Bring a dish to share and your smiling face!

* The garden is bigger and better than ever this year, and we've only just begun! Come on by to see our newest raised bed, and read some of our little garden markers to see what will be growing throughout the season. Most of the seeds planted are heirloom, hand-collected, or at least non-treated, (plant labels are recycled, and not necessarily the "brand" of seed planted). We'll be making the most of our space this year, and you are welcome to come on by and get dirty with us!

* The Radishal Recycling center is open again, so bring by your tin, steel, aluminum, glass, paper, plastic beverage containers, grocery bags, used ink cartridges, old cell phones, and compost, and we'll reduce their impact on the environment.

* This year, we will have special dry-erase lists of things that need done around the center, so no longer will you walk in to volunteer and not know what needs to be done. Every time you want to lend a hand, you can do so at a moment's notice, and help make things happen! The lists are being planned and created right now, so feel free to drop in and have a say in what you feel needs done. We'll even have instructions and maps for the few more complicated tasks.

Of course, if you want to come and visit, host a meeting, workshop, or other event, or check out a book, there's always the comfy couches, children's play area, and lending library as well. Check with an available volunteer to arrange event scheduling.

* The Spoke & Wrench bike repair workshop is still going on on Sunday afternoons from 3-6pm. Come share your knowledge, or learn something new. Donations of bike parts are always welcome, and we'll happily teach you how to maintain or repair your bicycle. Tools are usually available. If we don't know how to fix your bike, one of the books inside will!

* Donations are constantly being accepted for material goods, cash, and non-tangibles like time and services. The next time you feel like giving, check out our lists! The small cash donation chart will be posted in the main room for your viewing pleasure, and necessary community task lists will be nearby. For donations of material goods, visit our wish lists on the right of this page for examples of what we are looking for, but please remember that used is better than new.

* The calendar below is currently undergoing serious renovations, please ignore it until further notice, Thanks.

*Many happy new projects are in the works, so drop on by and have a say in what happens in your community center. Remember, The Radish is run by those who show up!
