June is Rad.

Howdy Radishals!
Here is the low-down on what’s happening this month at The Radish. Don’t say we didn’t warn you . . .

Tuesday, May 31 @ 7pm, Radish Shmeeting – The fate of The Radish is in your hands! Well, sort of. Come help us organize and create our community space.

Wednesday, June 1 @ 4 pm – Stephen Zarlenga from the Monetary Institute will be visiting The Radish to have an informal conversation with folks who are interested. (For more info on Stephen and The Monetary Institute visit www.ozarkpeace.net or www.monetary.org). This is important stuff, folks. We really urge you to come. We will provide some munchies, and as always, drinks.

Wednesday, June 1 @ 7 pm, Wicca 101. One of the local pagan groups will now be hosting all of their Wicca 101 classes at The Radish! These are open to everyone, so please come and check it out!

Saturday, June 4 @ 4 pm, Movie “End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream.” This film explores the American Way of Life and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply.

Tuesday, June 7 @ 7 pm, Alternative Media Meeting. So a lot of you have been asking about starting an alternative media outlet in Springfield. To that end, we have picked a time and place – all we need you to do now is show up and get active! This meeting will hopefully be the beginning step toward alternative media in Springfield. Please come prepared with your ideas and enthusiasm.

Wednesday, June 8 @ 7 pm, “Pass Wind, Not Gas.” Simon Mahan of SMSU’s Sierra Club will present on Springfield’s wind capabilities. As Springfield nears a critical juncture concerning the source(s) of our energy – and whether or not it will be clean – it is imperative for us to educate ourselves about all possible options. This sure seems like a good one. . .

Saturday, June 11, Pride Fest Movie Marathon. In conjunction with this year’s week-long Pride Fest, The Radish will be hosting a Pride Movie Marathon on Saturday, June 11. Stay tuned for more details!

Monday, June 13 @ 7 pm, Peace Network of the Ozarks (PNO) meeting. Come see what the Peace Network is up to and help them create a more peaceful future.

Wednesday, June 15 @ 7 pm. Wicca 101. See above.

Thursday, June 16 from 6-9 pm. Women’s Night. Stay tuned for more details!

Friday, June 17. Rawk! Get this – these kids are coming in from Australia! Details TBA.

Saturday, June 18 @ 4 pm, Movie “PickAxe.” An amazing documentary about the fight to save an Oregon forest from logging. The film follows a group of activists as they blockade a logging road (through an entire winter and 10 feet of snow), set up a “free state,” confront disgruntled loggers, endure mass arrests, and engage in a 75 day hunger strike. PickAxe is incredibly well put together and very inspiring.

Saturday, June 25 @ 7 pm, Punk n’ Palestine. We are super excited about this. Long-time peace activist with Voices in the Wilderness, Ceylon Mooney, will be visiting us to talk about his visits to Palestine. This is an issue we all need to be concerned about – please don’t miss this event. Then, to top it off, a punk show! Ceylon will be bringing some bands with him in from Memphis. They will be joined by locals, Molotov Latte. Should be a fantastic evening!

Wednesday, June 29 @ 7 pm, Poetry Nite. Bring your words and your energy. Actually, they don’t even have to be your words. :) The only thing we ask is that this event be strictly for the spoken word – no music please!

Also – on Monday, June 6 at 7 pm the Energy Task Force will be having their final public meeting at The Discovery Center. This is the ONLY meeting that will have been at a time accessible to most people. Please come to show that we are paying attention and that we do care about the health and future of our community. At the last public meeting they asked people who were interested to come prepared with a short presentation. You will be asked to sign in when you get there . . . If you have any questions, PLEASE let us know.

P.S.
Something missing? Where is YOUR event? We know you all have amazing skills and talents to share. Please contact us to get some skill shares and workshops on the calendar. Our greatest resource is our own community. We must grow and learn from one another!
