Thursday, July 7 @ 6 pm – Anarchy Discussion Group. The topic this time? Anarchist literature!

Saturday, July 9 @ 9 pm – Punk Rawk! Thee Fine Lines and The Jim Jims. An all ages show. Cover charge will probably be 3 bucks.

Tuesday, July 12 @ 7pm – Peace Network of the Ozarks Meeting. Join the Peace Network as they help build a more peaceful future.

Wednesday, July 13 @ 6:30 pm- Movie Night! “The Battle of Algiers.” Here’s what the packaging says, “One of the most influential films in the history of political cinema, Gillo Pontecorvo’s The Battle of Algiers focuses on the events of 1957, a key year in Algieria’s struggle for independence from France. Shot in the streets of Algiers in documentary style, the film vividly re-creates the tumultuous Algerian uprising against the occupying French. The violence soon escalates on both sides in this war drama that’s astonishingly relevant today.” Need we say more?

Thursday, July 14 @ 7 pm – Wicca Meet and Greet. An informal get-to-know-you gathering. Preparation for the meeting on the 21st. . .

Friday, July 15 @ 8 pm – Radical Tunes and anti-imperialist ponderings of Maioan Person. (My Own Person—get it?) Socially and politically conscious music from one of The Radish’s favorite musicians. Don’t miss it!

Saturday, July 16 @ 2 pm – Indymedia/IMC Meeting (formerly known as the Alternative Media Meeting). Interested in being involved in a local independent media center? Then this is the group for you! Help us build our own community media. Please come prepared – make sure you know what an IndyMedia site looks like, how it works, what the mission statement looks like, etc. For examples you can visit www.indymedia.org or kcindymedia.org. ALSO – it looks like Chuck Munson from Kansas City IMC might be joining us for this meeting to help us figure out how to get started. This is a really great opportunity for us! Please come with questions – and a couple of bucks to help Chuck with gas.

Thursday, July 21 @ 5:30 pm – Community Outreach Meeting. If you are interested in working on Community Outreach with The Radish, this is the one for you! We are looking for folks interested in networking and building strong relationships with other communities and organizations in Springfield.

Wednesday, July 27 @ 7 pm – Poetry Night. Bring your words and energy. We had great attendance and a fantastic discussion afterwards at the last poetry night. Let’s do it again!

Thursday, July 28 @ 6:30 pm – Movie Night! “This is What Democracy Looks Like!” This is an amazing documentary about the WTO protests in Seattle in 1999. Very inspiring stuff.

Also, for anyone who is interested, the city of Springfield is offering a FREE two month course on local government. Classes run from September 6-November 8 on Tuesday nights from 6:30-9. This seems like a pretty unique opportunity to learn more about our local government and how it works. We have more info at The Radish, if you are interested.

Finally, we’ve had a couple of folks express interest in helping us make an antenna for WiFi access at The Radish. If you are one of these folks, please contact us ASAP so we can get started. Thanks!
